One of our latest applications made\u00a0scratch testing\u00a0of complex coating much easier to achieve and increased throughput by several orders of magnitude.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Programmable landing force<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/products\/tools-tweezer-micro-grippers\/\">Sigma\u00a0shear sensors<\/a> include a vertical force sensor that provides its unique programmable landing force feature. For\u00a0scratch testing this enables the scratch force to be controlled and synchronously measured together with the horizontal shear force. This provides the control needed for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/test-types\/scratch.php\">scratch testing<\/a>\u00a0including the 3 standard procedures;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bulletimg\">\n<li>Progressive Load Scratch Test (PLST)<\/li>\n<li>Constant Load Scratch Test (CLST)<\/li>\n<li>Multipass Scratch Test (MPST)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As with any scratch tester the quality of the bond between layers can be seen in the failure mode and force displacement graph. The following examples show the same PLST on multi layer films of different constructions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"picture right\">\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Progressive-load-scratch-test-results-different-multi-layer-films.png\" alt=\"Progressive load scratch test results different multi layer films\" width=\"825\" height=\"953\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Additional failure mode analysis such as EDX helps to show at what point layers fail. With this deeper understanding quality assurance may subsequently only require scratch testing.<\/p>\n<h2>Sigma<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/products2\/sigma\/\">Sigma<\/a>\u00a0is a highly flexible micro materials tester specifically designed for the semiconductor and electronics industry. From its very beginning it was designed for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/products\/ergonomics\/\">easy and comfortable<\/a>\u00a0manual use, making it much faster than any dedicated scratch tester.<\/p>\n<p>Its fully automatic mode delivers even more benefits. Samples are simply loaded and tested. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/products2\/sigma\/\">Sigma<\/a>\u00a0has fiducial mark pattern recognition to locate the samples position and then tests with precision with whatever combination of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xyztec.com\/test-types\/scratch.php\">scratch tests<\/a> you want. These can be different positions, procedures, directions and speeds. Being automatic, every sample is tested in exactly the same way. In a recent application, a product that required 1 day to test takes a mere 2 minutes on the\u00a0<a
